Work at Home Job: Identifying Scam Work at Home Opportunities

Before you fall for a work at home job scam you better read on. Doing a simple search on Google for work at home opportunities produces millions of results. Isn't that fantastic! With all these online jobs the unemployment crisis should be resolved in a day. But the truth is that a large percentage of online work at home jobs are in simple terms, worthless. Many unscrupulous people feed on the desperation of the unemployed and make outrageous claims of "systems" and "secrets" they have discovered that will produce unlimited wealth for you, that is, only IF you buy what they have to offer.

These individuals make promises and offers that are difficult to refuse. And unfortunately many innocent people buy into these claims but soon realize that they have been scammed and these so called "secrets" are worthless. It is these devious individuals who degrade the quality of the legitimate work at home opportunities. Yes, there are legitimate jobs on the internet but you will have to sweep through tons of rubbish before you find the real work at home jobs.

Before I outline what sort of jobs you will be able to perform online I will firstly share two vital tips on how to avoid the online work at home scams:

  • If an offer sounds too good to be true then run as far away from that offer as you can because it usually is to good to be true. Don't be sucked in by "get rich quick schemes." It is in our human nature to fall for those kinds of offers. For some it might seem that their lucky break has finally come. But success is achieved through hard work, dedication and proper goal setting and planning.

  • If you find an opportunity that looks legitimate on the outside but you are asked to pay to receive further information about this particular opportunity, then you know what to do. Run! Where have you ever heard of a potential employee paying the potential employer?

It is a common marketing ploy to play on your emotions by painting pictures of the good life and then offering you an opportunity to live that life, but only if you pay upfront. There are other ploys where you find ticking timers on a webpage followed by something that says, "There are only 3 places left" or "This price will be going up in 3 hours time" or "Receive these bonuses if you join now." All of these ploys are deceptive. If you go back to that website the next day you will see the exact same messages. It is all lies, psychological trickery directed toward you in an attempt to get your money.

The good news is that amongst the illegitimate work at home opportunities there are real work at home jobs that can benefit you financially. Home employment offers you time flexibility and many other perks. Some of the most common home employment opportunities are:

  • Online Writing jobs
  • Selling photographs for cash
  • Selling your own products or services online
  • Affiliate Marketing: selling other companies products online
  • Transcription services
  • Online Network Marketing: there are some really good Network Marketing Companies online but remember this, if there is no value adding product/service then it is an illegal offering.
  • Paid Surveys: don't ever pay anything to join a survey company and don't expect $1000's a month
  • Typing and online data entry jobs: be cautious, as this area is scammer territory
  • Buying and selling products on auction sites like Ebay and Amazon
  • Telecommuting Jobs

This list is not exhaustive but it does summarize the most common jobs you will find online. Always keep in mind the two vital tips that I outlined earlier regarding typical scam opportunities and you should be safe. You should also always choose a job or area that interests you as this will ensure you will not quit before you taste success.

I have fallen for scams in the past and when one has being scammed it is a bitter pill to swallow. It is a terrible feeling when someone takes away your hard earned money. But I didn't give up. After intensive research and sweeping all the rubbish away I did finally find an ethical business that offered a legitimate work at home opportunity. These opportunities do exist and if you reframe from haste, and remain patient, the right opportunity will present itself.

One final point I will like to emphasize is that whatever career direction you decide to follow, you WILL succeed with the right attitude, a desire to learn and a mindset that says nothing is impossible.
