Home-Based Employment- Avoiding Scams

Home-based employment opportunities are on the rise and for people looking for new jobs, they offer many attractive benefits. A number of students and mothers are most likely to seek home based employment for the simple reason that it is more convenient for their situation and status.

With the year 2000, there have been up to four million employees who have undertaken home-based employment in the United States alone. With home-based employment, there is an increase in the home employment scams too. Although most of the companies that offer home-based employment are genuine, one must watch out for the number of fake too-good-to-be-true offers that are on the rounds. Be especially vary of the 'sit at home and earn thousand dollars' advertisements as it one among the thousand offers which are totally false and are spreading through the net.

There are many ways of telling a fake home-based employment program from a genuine one. First and foremost, you cannot tell if it is real or false simply by gauging the medium of communication. They can come in newspapers, in your mail or even through a phone call. There are many which come by post in business letters and brochures. Just because they come in an impressive package does not necessarily mean that it is legal and genuine way of employment.

There are two general categories home-based employment can fall into. In the first type, a company will employ you and in the second, you start your own business such as franchising another company. Another way of gauging if you are a victim of a scam is by checking if the person offering to employ you is doing so without an interview or without asking for your resume. Are they asking for personal details such as credit card number and bank account? If so, then the best thing to do is research on the company thoroughly before disclosing any information. There are many helpful websites today that give you a list of different scams on home-based employment doing the rounds. Search for the name of the company online. Try to get as much information as you can from their website. Run a verification check on their addresses and contact numbers. Also verify all the other companies they claim to be affiliated with.

If a home based employment is offering to help you start your own business at home, your contact must be able to give you a precise, clear and complete business plan. If your contact is unable to give you a clear picture of how the business will function and seems vague about it, then it is most likely to be a scam. Also beware incase they promise you profits and perks which you find are way too good. Home based businesses like any other business requires a person to strive really hard in order to make profits and so getting them easy is a sign that something is fishy.
